대해서 툴루즈 FC (TFC)
Maybe we’ll start with the stadium. How many team do you know who play their matches on an island? Well, Toulouse FC certainly does. The team play its home matches at the 33,150 capacity Stadium Municipal de Toulouse, who sits on an island between two branches of the river Garonne. Elsewhere on the island one can find: A tennis club, a swimming pool, some restaurants, some practice pitches, a rowing club, a kayak club, a park exposition and three bridges leading in and out. Lovely.
Four years after football became professional in France, a team in Toulouse was formed 1937. Financial problems cause it to sell its players and place in the French Ligue to Red Star in 1967 and cease to exist. It was back in business in 1977 by a group of local businessmen and were invited to play in the French 2nd division. Under the name Union Sportive Toulouse and under red and yellow colors. It all changed during the 1979-80 season. The red and yellow (Blood and Gold) uniforms become purple and white (Violets of Toulouse). In the stands there is a new fighting shout: “Shoot, Toulouse in the first division”.
It finally happened in the 1982-83 season and Toulouse was in the first flight again. The city’s mayor was so pleased with the accomplishment, that he promised to increase the stadium’s capacity to 40,000 seats. Well, that didn’t happen yet.
But in the case of Toulouse, successes and happiness were short lived, as the team was relegated back to the second division a few seasons later and it kept bouncing back and fourth between the first and the second divisions for some years to come. However, the 2008–09 season marked an unexpected success for Toulouse. The club finished fourth in the Ligue 1 table with 64 points and secured a spot in the first season of the new Europa League.
The next season, after overcoming Turkish side Trabzonspor, Toulouse reached the group stage, where it finished as the 3rd ranked, after meeting Shakhtar Donetsk, FC Brugge and Partizan Belgrade.
Toulouse play its home games in the 33,150 seat Stadium Municipal.
Toulouse’s biggest rival in the Ligue 1 is Bordeaux, even though its sits more than two hours driving to the west.
Dominique Arribage is Toulouse all-time appearances leader, with 307 matches between 1992-1998 and 2004-2008.
The all-time goal scorer is Pierre Dorsini, who scored 90 goals for the club between 1957-1967.
Toulouse has won 1 French Cup in 1957. The club has won 3 French Ligue 2 championships, in 1953, 1982 and 2003.
The club’s most famous players are forward André-Pierre Gignac and goalkeeper (and World Cup winner with France) Fabien Barthez.
